A growing number of overseas buyers wants to buy a house in Italy despite Covid-19

In spite of Covid-19 pandemic, the growth of international buyers interested in buying a house in Italy continues. In 2021, requests rose by 107.38% compared to the previous year according to 2021 annual report by Gate-away.com, the Italian property portal dedicated to overseas investors. Tuscany and Lombardy remain the favourite regions.

This confirms that despite the global situation there is a great desire to move to a country like
Italy investing in a place that represents for many the best quality of life combined with art,
culture, excellent food and landscape beauties.

26.19% of the requests of information for properties for sale in Italy through the portal from all
over the world came from the United States with a +135,06% compared to the previous year;
13.92% from Germany (+165.6%); 9.29% from the United Kingdom (+64,74%) and 6.26% from the Netherlands.

The most requested regions are Tuscany with 16.96% of all enquiries; Lombardy 11.07%; Liguria 9.11%; Piedmont 8.55% and Apulia 8.19%. Every region has seen an exponential growth in interest. Some recorded a 100% increase in requests: this was the case of Piedmont (+150,7%), Calabria (+110,23%), Marche (+136,28%) and Veneto (+105,11%).

The most requested properties by overseas buyers are mainly houses (76.34%) over apartments. A good 67.95% are those which are already restored/habitable. The property requests average value is also on the rise compared to 2020, which is now € 506,021.
